The OneNote SP1 service pack fails to install. The file is downloaded
successfully. I am using OneNote 2003 (11.6360.6360) SP1

I am thinking of now downloading & installing the individual files.

Using XP latest updates are installed on a Toshiba Tablet

Hi,

If you go to Help--> About Microsoft Office OneNote and you are running
OneNote 2003 (11.6360.6360) SP1, then the SP1 should have installed properly.
Have you tried any of the SP1-specific features? For example, if you choose
File on the menu, is there a choice for Password Protection? Does this open
a Password Protection pane on the right?

Password Protection is there when I go to File. And it opens the pane.

But, still not sure if I'm running the latest SP1. When I 'Check Updates
from OneNote Help' it goes to the MS download center and tells me I need
OneNote SP1.

I've tried installing from the MS Website. The file comes down successfully
, but the upgrade bombs out.

I then tried both:

OneNote2003SP1-kb842774-client-enu.exe and
OneNote2003SP1-kb842774-fullfile-enu.exe

Both of these tell me 'the expected version of the product is not found on y
our system.'

I am running OneNote2003 (11.6360.6360) SP1 - maybe this is the latest
revision - but I can't rename page tabs from numbers. I thought this was an
SP1 feature.

PS I specifically bought a new copy of OneNote at CompUSA to try to get the
upgrade working.

Any advice? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I think you already have SP1 installed.

11.6360.6360 *is* SP1.

So, the SP1 installer detects that and, quite sensibly, refuses to go
any further.

Page tabs could be named in the original RTM. So, if the page tab
naming issue is the only issue for you then I don't think that's an
SP1 issue.

Let's be sure that we are talking about the same thing. You are
talking about the page tabs on the right (or left, depending on
options set) of the page? Correct?

If you hit Ctrl+N to create a new page then type "Hello" in the paler
area labelled Title towards the top of the new page does the text
"Hello" appear in the tab at the side of the page? Or a number?

Towards the extreme bottom right of the page there is a small white
arrow on a grey circle. Click that. Do you now see the page title on
the page tabs?

Thank you very much, that did it!

So this must be SP1 as you indicated.

The confusion was 2 fold, 1) the MS OneNote update wizard told me that I
needed to update to SP1 (still does by the way).

2) I went to Help on the Page Tab Naming option and it told me that I needed
SP1 for this to work. I missed the help instructions instructing the little
arrow at the bottom. I see it now, sorry.

FYI, I had tried everything else typical to MS Office products e.g. right
clicking on tabs, Tools, Format, Options, etc. So I wrongly determined this
must not have been SP1.

Thanks again.
