OneNote Support

D

I'm looking at adding OneNote to work with my other Office Programs. I've
add the Trial Version.

I see that many posts/questions added to that section are unanswered,
including mine.
How can I get support?
I'm hesitant to buy a product where the support provided seems unavailable.

Do you have any suggestion?

I tried the link you gave me and found nothing helpful or anything that would
lead me believe that the Discussion Group for OneNote would provide support
now or if I bought OneNote. When I use the Knowledgebase I find nothing that
address the problem that I find and, of more concern is, the fact that there
are few articles there that even come close to solving the problem. These
two resources have been great for the other Office programs that I own and
the primary way I get problems solved with these products.
At this point I am starting to get the idea that it may be a poorly
supported product. With the problem I run into when trying to use the
product I wonder if it will prove to be a problem in the future and I should
steer clear of it.

There is no guarantee than anyone's question can or will be answered. You
can purchase support time if you prefer a Microsoft employee handle your
issues. Without knowing the kind of problems you're having now, we can't
even try to help you.

Thank you for your reply,

I have tried to solve this problem buy using all resources on the
microsoft.com web site, knowledge base etc, and still cannot find a solution.

When I go the Publish Pages..., On the File menu, then select my
connection to my web host, the save as type is Single File Web Page" and
press Publish I get the following message "OneNote has encountered a problem
and cannote complete this operation".

I have tried this with the Fire Wall off and my anti-virus monitor off and
still get the same problem...(also OneNote is an exception on my Fire Wall).

What I can do is on the File menue select Save as, and choose a save as type
"Single File Web Page" and then choose to save it to my Desktop, then use
this file and transfer it to my Web host using FileZilla and it publishes to
my web site with no problems.
Or, I can take this file and Open it with Word 2003 and then Publish it to
my Web Host, in similar manner to what I am trying in OneNote, and it works,
also.

Hi DomDog,

You posted the question at 11AM today in the One Note discussion group (links below) and this one here around 2PM. Unless you're a
MS Technet or MSDN subscriber (and then MS gets up to 2 business days <g>) please note that these are peer support forums and
answers sometimes come as fast as you type them, but sometimes can take several days until someone who has seen that particular
problem reads the postings and replies and some are not responded to (i.e. many of the folks here have 'day jobs' <g> as well as the
volunteer time here).

Office trial products do not include Microsoft support other than do-it-yourself.

Your previous question (May 18th) on being able to purchase an Office 2003 OneNote license would be that it would need to be
something via 3rd party, as the 2003 product line has been a discontinued model for over a year now.

Thank you, for your reply,

First of all let me say that I do appreciate and respect the MVP's time. I
try to search for answers before I come here. They've always been helpful
and/or send me in the right direction.

I appreciate knowing that the 2003 is discontinued.

I got a little concerned when I saw "General" as the only category for
OneNote, when I'm used to more. Then seeing the unanswered posts made me
wonder if I was looking at an orphan product.

As OneNote's usage increases, I assume the number of posts will increase.
If/wehn that happens, then the powers that be may make the decision to split
the groups into general topics.

what you might try
is to publish to a folder
on your local disk, then
move that file or upload
it to the desired location.

before moving or uploading
you might want to try
to open the published
file with another application,
like the ie browser to ensure
integrity of your data and file.

--------------
don't forget that you
can also click on the
help menu option for
some answers as well.

Hi DomDog,

I see that MVP Ben Schorr has popped in over at the OneNote discussion group on some of the questions (part of what you may be
seeing is (a) the U.S. Memorial weekend lag and (b) end of term for a number of school sessions, impacting availability of free time
<g>).

It may also be less of an 'abandoned' product (although the leadership changed in April at Microsoft) but more that it's the 'where
to look part' of finding things related to OneNote. Part of it is that OneNote tends to 'live' in a different consultative
environment than many of the desktop apps, so the 'discussion' groups aren't always the type of communication location users would
gravitate towards.

You may want to also check one or more of the OneNote team member blogs
http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/david_rasmussen
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnguin
http://blogs.msdn.com/onenote_and_education
http://blogs.msdn.com/descape

Messaging between OneNote users, OneNote Mobile, and social networking approaches such as Twitter and Facebook seem to more used
avenues for folsk with academic backgrounds, for connecting over problems as well as feature finds.

Try EverNote as a reasonable alternative. They do have useful forums
and support. Probably not as strong in groupware features though.
