OneNote unfiled notes missing

I have unfiled notes saved to my flashdrive. When I click to open them today
I get a message saying the section is empty. Is there any way to retrieve my
research?

AFAICS only using the Win Explorer and checking the notebooks stored in
the flashdrive. Look for "unfiled*.*"

Sorry for my ignorance, but i don't know what the AFAICS in your response
means. I tried opening every unfiled note on the flash drive by double
clicking it in Windows explorer but it goes to the empty screen. It does tell
me that thee is 1765 KB in the file, but it's empty once opened. I hope to
look for a backup on the last computer to open the file if I can get on it
again.

Use Windows Explorer to look at the contents of your drive. See if
there is a .ONE file located anywhere there. If so, double-click on
it and it should open up in OneNote. Once you've opened it, you can
drag and drop the contents of that file over to another notebook.
