OneNote won't open PDF file from hyperlink-says no program registe

I created a hyperlink within my notes to a PDF file. When I try to open it
from within OneNote, I get the usual "this file may be unsafe", then an error
message that says file cannot be opened because "No program is registered to
open this file."

This is not correct/true - I confirmed that Adobe Reader 9.1 is the default
program to open all PDF files and the "always use this program to open these
kinds of files" is checked off.

Any ideas?

To cure problems with PDF program association - depending on the OS:
1.) Vista
- download and run UNASSOC (it does not need to be installed);
- navigate to ".pdf" and delete the entry;
- open the Reader and let it be repaired
Help => Repair Adobe Reader installation.

2.) XP:
- open "Folder Options" (from the Explorer or the Control Panel);
- open the tabbed page "File Types";
- navigate to PDF;
- use the "Delete" button to remove PDF from the lost;
- run a repair (as above).

Do you really think it has to do for an association problem, though?
Because other than in OneNote I don't have problems opening up PDF files.

Just double checking before I download this program/utility.

I can not see any other reason for the symptoms on your side.
Never had any problems with opening of PDFs

UNASSOC does not do any harm. The necessary associations are re-created
by running the repair.
Under Vista my recipe even made it possible to assign the Adobe Reader
as the instrument to open attachments of mails instead of Acrobat coming
up.

But not too much, pleeeease.

The attribute might fit for the author of UNASSOC who created it for
covering a serious gap in Vista.
On my side it's just experience from several years of struggling with
opening PDF mail-attachments the right way (Adobe Reader instead of the
"full" Acrobat)
