OneNote Won't Open

Keith Hildebrand

Recently installed a new PC for a user. Old PC was XP 32-bit, new PC is Vista
64-bit. Everything seems to work fine except OneNote will not open at all.
The splash screen appears and I get either the spinning hour glass or the
spinning circle. I've let it sit there for 10 minutes or more, nothing
happens. Tried /safeboot same thing. Tried logging on as different users,
same thing. Uninstalled and reinstalled no change, repair didn't help either.
Followed Microsoft troubleshooting steps for OneNote, renaming registry keys,
folders, etc... no help there either. Anybody have anything else I can try?

Are you installing 2003 or 2007?

Thanks Zymergee.

FYI: I have recently installed ON 2007 on a Vista 64 bit system without any
issues.

It was OneNote 2007.
About 10 minutes after I posted this I tried a few more things that solved
it. I logged in as a local user and OneNote opened just fine. Only domain
users were having issues. Searched the registry and compaired between another
PC that was working. Noticed a setting in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\General it was pointing to
\\fileserver\%username%\Onenote notebooks
Changed it to C:\users\%username%\Onenote notebooks and bingo it works. Just
had to open all the notebook again from the My Documents\Onenote Notebooks
folder and it works like a charm. (except for the Send to Onenote that
palgues 64-bit machines) I figure it is the Vista UAC combo of security
stopping it from opening.
