Online / CBT training MS-Project Advanced topics

Clive

Hi,

Can anyone suggest / recommend online / CBT training of, if not
advanced, then non-standard features of MS-Project? Can one get a
version of such software that runs on a PocketPC / Windows mobile
device? I have Googled Project Mentor - which seems to have a good
presentation but is too basic in terms of topics

MS-Project seems to have lots of options I have never used - e.g
display Gantt by Table, Using the Financial facilities,

I would like to learn some techniques to tackle the following: how
do I best incorporate slack / tolerance into my project so that when
tasks are late I can see that key milestones will slip? How do I not
report progress in terms of work done towards estimated completion
date? etc

I am just looking to find out what little used facilities exist
in MS-Project to make my project tracking and reporting easier.

Thanks

Clive

I've got to ask ...you said "How do I *not* report progress in terms of work
done towards estimated completion date?" But
what other kinds of progress are even possible to report on except work done
towards the estimated completion date? Projects always create something
that didn't previously exist. If we don't do work on it, nothing gets
created, therefore there is no progress. We can do work faster then we
thought we were going to do it or we can do it slower. The final outcome
might require more work than we first thought it would or it might require
less. But progress is always driven by work performed.

If your project is set up properly, letting Project calculate the start and
end dates of tasks instead of trying to input them yourself and setting
links between the tasks that accurately describe their dependencies, the
slippage of milestones (and other tasks) that are delayed because
predecessor tasks are running late will automatically be calculated and
displayed. You don't need to access exotic hidden, non-standard, or
advanced features in Project (there aren't any really hidden features
anyway) for it to happen - what you are describing is basic, out-of-the-box,
standard-operating-procedure, behavior.
