Online Registration

I've just installed Office v.X for Macintosh and was unable to register the
product online.

Online registration requires a .NET account, and the registration form for a
..NET account contains a trick question. It requires you to type in a string
of characters read from a picture just above the text box. Apparently my
reading skills have deteriorated seriously because I can't seem to guess the
right characters. I think it's the second character that is causing my
problem. I tried 'T', '7', 'Z', and even skipping it altogether. Nothing
that I tried was accepted.

What's the trick? I'm not a machine, really. I'm an actual flesh-and-blood
human being. But I'll be damned if I can figure out what the correct
character string is.

If you're still having trouble reading it (did you try it in a
different browser?) you might consider just not registering. There's
no real reason to do so, as long as you keep your original media and
keep up with updates by checking MacTopia:

from time to time. You'll miss the update emails, but that's about
all. Fortunately, it's not like Windows Office that requires
activation.

I abhor Passport and only use it regularly at one MS site that
requires it - and it's tied to a throwaway hotmail address. Any
other time Passport comes up (which is very rare, fortunately), I
create a new hotmail account for the session, then promptly forget
about it as soon as I'm done.
