Online Update to drive D?

JR

I have my hard drive partitioned so that the applications
are installe din drive D under Program Files. This is
where Office XP is installed. I went to the online update
page and downloaded the service pack update. I downloaded
the service pack but it seem that becuase the Office apps
are in Drive D:\Program Files\ instead of drive
C:\Program Files\ that the updates are not being
executed. Can someone tell me where to look for the
downloaded updates and how I can make them execute for
the Office XP programs located in D:\Program Files\ ?
Thanks, JR (rondo # atlantic.net no spaces and replace

I have everything to do with Windows on drive d:\ and have never had a
problem telling downloads and/or updates were to go. In fact, updates just
updated, they didn't ask where the program to be updates was located and
they installed themselves just fine.

You did not mention the os or version of office you are using. This the only way you question can be answered correctly.
You may try this:
In an Office application go to help, check for updates, no matter the drive (as previously posted).
You should be directed to the Office update site, click check for updates, the executable runs, finds your needed update files, critical, etc...
The files downloaded should automatically apply to your Office suite.
Please note that you should also update your os as well.

WIndows XP Fully updated
Office XP 2002

I downloaded the files oxpsp1 and oxpsp2. I then
uninstalled Office XP and rebooted.

Upon reboot I did a complete install of Office XP and
rebooted. I then executed the downloaded file oxpsp1 and
during the install I get a HotFix error.

I checked each of the Office products and they all show
SP-2, even though the service packs have not been
installed. Maybe the oxpsp1 can not install because
somehow the current versions are showing SP-2? The
products have the following numbers in brackets listed on
the Help menu, about section:

FrontPage: 10.3402.4219
Word 10.3416.4219
Excel: 10.3506.4219
Publisher: 10.3402.4219
Outlook: 10.3513.4219

When I go to th eOffice Update site and have it check my
computer for needed updates it comes back and instructs
me to download the 44724 KB file for Office XP Service
Pack 2. The above files (oxpsp1 and oxpsp2) that I
downloaded were done so at the instruction of MS and were
suppose to update Office to service pack 1 (oxpsp1) and
then service pack 2 (oxpsp2). I am assuming this (oxpsp2)
is the same service pack update the Office Update web
site is instructing me to download.

Again, all these installs are to a fresh hard drive,
newley formatted and partioned with fresh installs of
Windows XP (including all the updates from the WIndows
Update site) and fresh installs of Office 2002.

Without installing the service packs from the Office
Update site I can not install that latter issued security
patches. The software will not allow me to install
Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 will not install until
Service Pack 1 is installed - even though the Office
products show SP-2 in the Help > About dropdown menus.

Since you are getting a hot fix error for Office during re-install,
I would try this
1. Back up my system, document files/ pics/ .pst file/ etc..
2. Try new install of Office, if hot fix error shows agai
3. Go to Control Panel / add remove programs / find and remove all Office hotfixe
4. Re-install Offic

If this fails
1. I would purchase a new drive so the system will have 2. (so you do not have partitions on the same drive) never liked that..
2. re-install Windows on master driv
3. Install Office on slave (if you want, personally, I would apply these to my master, since Office runs on Windows
4. Install my other programs on the slave drive.
