Only 16 InfoPath date fields promoted to Form Library columns

I have an InfoPath (2003) form with many fields and would like to promote
most of these fields (total of 54) to a Sharepoint Form Library. Upon doing
this I noticed that (7) of these fields were not available in the form
libary. After testing, I discovered that if I remove (not promote) one of
the date fields that had been available in the form library then one of my
"missing" fields will appear.

This problem is not due to any limitation of the number of columns that
Sharepoint will allow, and it is not due to the number of fields that I can
promote. For instance, I removed (did not promote) a text field but my date
fields did not appear in place of it.

I have (23) date fields on my form that I am trying to promote, so only (16)
at a time are available within the form library.

....so is this a bug, a limitation or something that I can work around?

There is a limitation to the number of data fields of a particular data type
that you can promote. Text fields give you the largest number of possible
promotions. One option is to promote the dates as text fields instead of
date fields.

If you have that many fields...you most likel;y are trying to report on your
data via SP.
You may want to look at storing your form data in a database to have
aggregation and reporting. I have found that can work better and not have
the limitatuons.

Yes, I agree a database would be a better solution but for the short term I
believe I will convert the date fields to text fields as a workaround--we get
no style points in my line of business. Thanks Clay and Greg for your quick
response.

Glad to help out.

There should be some SharePoint documentation that describes specific limits
of how many promoted properties you can have per data type. I don't know
where it is, but I've seen that information before a long time back.
