Only Compatable with Office 2003?

Any way around this?

How is it non Microsoft developers try to make their products backward
compatable but Microsoft itself does not.

Truly very annoying to find a tool you really want to use only to find some
of the best features you can't use because your company isn't on the latest
greatest. For gods sakes at least let me put in a pic from Word and Excel!

<sigh>

The features in OneNote need Office 2003 application functionality, and
Office XP is more than three years old now, since those were 2002 versions.

Not sure I get your point..

if your point is basicly "buy Office 2003 or you're SoL" than guess I just
have to go elsewhere were the developers realize people are on several
different versions of Office; yet still appreciate the buisness..

My point is Office XP (2002) preceded OneNote by several years. Not
everything "must" be backward compatible. I'd love to be able to use
unleaded gasoline at the prices of several years ago, but vehicle engine
technology moved forward. So does software.

I'm sorry but sounds like a lame excuse to me... as I mentioned others
realize everyone can't be on the latest greatest at all times and develop
accordingly. It's just said Microsoft won't do the same and would rather take
the low road to soak ya for more cash..

which I'm sorry.. really is the bottom line..

I'm not making excuses, Deb. I don't speak for Microsoft, but I do like to
see progress. I believe you mentioned a Tablet in your life? There are
things which Microsoft has come out with like the Experience and Education
packs, which install on XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005 only. There
were changes to the operating system (XP Pro) with XP SP2, but according to
what you're saying, we shouldn't advance in software without being backward
compatible.

I say we should embrace the advances. If we don't (or can't) upgrade in
your example from Office XP to Office 2003, then we should accept that
advances made simply aren't available to us. Office XP was even pre-Tablet
PC, and takes the add-on pack to enable a limited amount of Inking. Office
2003 has that Ink capabilities (and more) native - that's advancement. And
Microsoft even came along with an Improved Inking add-on package for Office
2003, increasing the contextual tagging area to enable more input.

Wait until Office 12 (which isn't in beta yet) comes out.

I think you are taking my point to an extreme exaggeration. Nowhere do I say
there should not be progress.

Is it however to much to ask that I can insert my Word docs as a background
picture so I can edit it later WITHOUT having the latest Office package? Why
can Mindjet, GoBinder etc make progress and be compatable with older versions
and yet Microsoft can’t?

Plenty of other developers offer tools that go back further than ONLY THE
MOST CURRENT version. You take a simple request and blow it to the extreme
to hide a much-needed “advancement†to OneNote; making it accessable to a
larger audience.

I’m sorry if giving customers the tools they need is considered backwards..

On your Tablet PC, do you have the Education Pack installed? If so, have
you used Send to Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 to send other documents?
