Only one can open file

Appreciate any help on multiuser environment. Thanks in advance.

I placed a HCS.mdb file inside a share folder z:\HCS_shr. I was hoping that
more than one PC can open the file to enter / edit records. Unfortunately
only one PC can open the file at a time. (when PC1 open the file, PC2 will
not be able to open it unless the file is closed by PC1).

Must shared file only work in FE / BE settings, where I Install FE to all
PCs that is connected to the same BE. This is my 1st time trying Access03 on
multiusers and need all kind of advice.

Thanks

Regards

Suggest you check all files including the BE file. Also try opening from
different PCs. Check each Access installation.

It is ALWAYS strongly advised to setup multiuser systems with separate
backend shared on the server and individual copies of the FE on each users's
computer. Protecting the data is a key part of any system. This is the most
reliable arrangement, and is very simple to set up, so don't skip that step.

Regarding the single user, check the users' permissions in the shared
folder. Users need to be able to create and delete files, not just read and
write. When the first user opens the db, Access needs to create the .ldb
file in the same folder. That's the file that coordinates shared db access.
If the user cannot create the file, you get the symptoms described.

Further to Paul's comments, we sell an Access based Project Management tool
called Project Administrator. We see a lot of errors where the database
cannot be updated because of Windows security settings. To assist people we
created a downloadable PDF which takes people step by step through the
process. You can download it from
