Only The Report Header Is Printing - No Data

J

JODI

I use an Access application here at work, which includes a button on a form
to print a report. When I try to print the report nothing comes out but the
header of the report.
I'm very new to using Access and really don't know the ins and outs of it at
all. I have looked in a couple of different Access training books, but I
don't know what I'm really looking for.
I'm frustated and need help.

Does the report have a RecordSource? A table or query that is providing the
data to the report? Do you have controls on the report that are bound to
fields in that RecordSource table/query?

One of the first things I do when this occurs is see if the query the
provides data for the report, returns said data. (if the report is based on a
query). If running a query returns an empty set (not even a blank record)
then I start looking at the underlying records, relationships etc.

I would have to say yes to the Record Source. There are tables and queries
set up. As for the next question you have lost me. I'm not sure what you mean
by controls on the report. How do I check this?

How do I check to see if the query provides this info?

In the report's Design View, click in the grey area under the report so that
you are not selecting anything.
Click the Properties button.
Click the Data tab.
Click just right of the line that says Record Source.
(if there is nothing written in that line then that explains the lack of
data)
If there is anything written there, a query will open in Design View.
Look at the query in Datasheet View and see if there is anything in it.

Controls are things like textboxes, comboboxes, listboxes, buttons, labels,
etc. In order to display data on a report, you must have a textbox on the
report and that textbox must be bound to a field in the report's
RecordSource (that textbox must have the name of a field in the textbox's
ControlSource property).
