oo-ah where have the pages gone?

I'm not sure if this is an error or just a weird setting that I've managed
to produce,
When I open Word, I find that it only displays one page and I cannot go
beyond that when typing.
If I go to Page Setup in the File menu, the rectangle at the bottom right of
the dialogue box no longer has the lines in it that tell you what the print
will look like on the page.
I can view beyond the first page of an existing document if I switch the
view to Print Layout but that's about it.
Have I got an error situation or have I discovered some setting I didn't
know about?

To fix the issue in an existing document: Click Format | Columns, choose the
"One" option, even if it already appears to be selected, and click OK.

To fix the issue for new, blank documents: Open the Normal template as a
file; for instructions on how to find normal.dot, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/blankdocnotblank.htm. Repeat the above
procedure. Save and close normal.dot.

Thanks for that, Stefan,
After I'd done the procedure in the "Normal" file (which now looks okay
whenever I open it), I still get the problem when creating a new file.
However, I can fix this the same way as I do existing files so at least I
can do normal work.
Maybe I'll have to do a System Restore to get back to the original
situation.
Thanks again.

If you are still seeing the issue when creating a *blank* document, then you
haven't modified the correct Normal file; you want to change the one that is
in the user templates folder. Alternatively, just rename the template (or
rename each of the templates named Normal that you find) to have Word create
a fresh one for you.

On the other hand, if the issue affects documents created from a different
template, you will have to change that template.
