I attempted to do something today that I had done on many
occasions over many years with many word-processing type
applications. I just tried it for the first time with Word

I can defined a style to "keep with next" style to follow it.

I can't define it to "keep with previous"??

I need to bind a style to a previous paragraph regardless of that
paragraph's style.

(using Word 2004 for Mac version 11.3.5 on OS 10.3.9)

Jeff,

I know you are as world-weary as I am, so I'll give it to you straight: Word
hasn't got it. It pains me too. I submitted a suggestion on this 4 years ago
and have hastened it, most recently about six months ago. We wait patiently.

And will continue to.

Ommmm.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like such a hard thing to do. I'm starting to wonder
if someone outside MS owns a copyright on the feature that MS refuses to pay
for - kinda like Go To in Excel not bringing the target cell into the upper
left corner of the viewing area;-)

Bummer.

Double bummer (but expected)

Are you a Moody Blues fan? That might just work...

Nah. Adding new unrelated parasitic features onto the application
is easy. It's changing anything that is already there that seems
to be difficult. This is a trait that I've discovered usually is
indicative of poorly structured code.

And I suspect that the only way a copyright might be an issue to
MS is if it is owned by another very large company but I've seen
this feature in both Framemaker and Interleaf (Quicksilver)
amoung others.

My guess is that it is being ignored because it's either too
difficult or (more likely) is considered less important than
other things.
