sorry didn't mean to send twice.....don't know how that
happened. If garfield 'n odie replies - I have already
noted your advice to detect and repair. It didn't work.
Neither did re-installing Office 2000, re-installing
Windows 98, system scan for viruses (Norton), installing
updated drivers for the printer.....I can't think of
anything else to try. Please help.....Thank you.

Hi, parlicoot. Try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with Norton Antivirus. This option is usually in something like Start | Programs | Norton | Options | Miscellaneous.

Thank you garfield. I wish I could say it worked....but it
didn't. I disabled the plugin, went to a doc and printed
it. When I closed it, the same error message came up. But
I'm grateful for someone putting their mind to it. Any
more ideas?

Hi, parlicoot. Does the problem occur if you print to a different
printer, then save? If you don't have another printer to experiment
with, install a fake local printer (like a HP Laserjet 4) configured to
print to the NUL: port, print to the fake printer, then save... does the
problem occur? If not, then at least we know the problem is caused by
the printer driver for your real printer.

Hello Garfield n odie,
Ok, I tried to do that, but when I got to the bit about
Ports, the only choices I had were COM 1, COM 4, File and
LPT1 - ECP Printer Port. I couldn't see anything labelled
NUL. However, I carried on doing what seemed right, and
managed to install the fake printer. I then tried to print
a doc., which didn't work, of course, BUT, when I closed
it down.......no error message!
Between you and Beth, I'm sure the problem will be sorted!
Thank you. Parlicoot
(Don't forget to tell me what to do next)

You were right. I downloaded the new printer drivers (how
cool is that - I, who know nothing!) and my computer is
now an error free zone! Thank you so much for your help.
