Open as and Save in hang

R

Robert Naunton

When I open the "Open in" or "Save as" box and try to change the folder
using "Look in" down arrow the computer hangs for possibly 4 minutes and
says it is not responding before freeing itself and allowing me to change
the folder, although it hangs again when the next folder is selected.

Any solutions please?

What version is it? There was an issue with XP and 2003 which a service pack
took care of. Also I'd run adware and spybot as it makes computer
performance slow as much as 150%. Go to Microsoft Office Updates and see if
one of those help you out.
If it's on a network tell your network admin to do the service updates.

Thank you for your helpful response.

I have 4 computers networked on a home network which I administer- all use
Windows XP Professional and they have Office 2003 with service patch 2. 2 of
the computers have this problem but the other 2 do not. One of the affected
computers is protected by McAfee and Webroot, Adware and Microsoft Beta
Spyware program and all the rest have Norton Internet Security. I have a
Netgear ADSL modem which incorporates a firewall and router.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

others many a time. Find him very knowledgebale, usually when I see his name
I just read the answer and move on.
