open character map from toolbar

I want to make a toolbar button (or keyboard shortcut) which will allow me
to open Character Map from inside word 2003

Is there a way of doing this (or of opening other non-word apps)

Tobit, try creating a macro to do what you want then assign keyboard combo
to it or toolbar button to launch.
