Open dialog box appears full screen instead of a window

Something changed. In any office app (Frontpage, Word,
Excel, etc) when I attempt to open a document, the open
dialog box appears full screen. It still works but I
would like it to go back to the way it originally was.
That is a smaller window so that I could see other desktop
items behind.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this matter. I did
install the PALM Pilot Desktop over the weekend. But have
now uninstalled and reboot. No improvement

Double-click on the title bar of the "Open file" dialog window.
