Open dialog box error

I am unable to open any documents with word. When I try and word opens an
error pops up saying 'The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is
open. Click ok, and then close open dialog boxes to continue.' I have no
clue what its talking about or how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Minimize any open windows to see what dialog box may be open behind them.
This particular error is often generated by (IIRC) the Norton AntiVirus
Office Plug-in.
