Open Dialog Hangs

Hi,

I have a client running Office XP Pro. on a Windows XP Home Edition (SP2)
system. The various office applications run ok except when you bring up the
Open Dialog to locate and open a file. The dialog comes up, but as soon as
you select a folder, or try to pull down the folder list, the dialog hangs
(shows Not Responding in Task Manager), and most times does not recover,
forcing you to kill the task. This problem started very recently, as the
client has been using Office XP for quite some time with no problems.

If I boot the system into Safe Mode then all is well. I suspect there is
something running on the system that is interfering with Office (especially
since other apps, such as Notepad, do not experience this problem). I have
tried disabeling applications such as Norton Anti-Virus, but to no avail. It
does seem to get better when I do that though, and sometimes it will only
hang if I gry to select My Computer from the pull down list or from the
button on the left had side of the dialog box. The system is fully up to
date as far as patches go.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
network drives that are not currently available.
