Open Docx in Jaguar?

I see that the XML file format converter beta requires Tiger (10.4).
Is there a solution for those of us who still use Jaguar (10.3)?

Hello Randy,

If you mean the Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 0.2
(Beta) available from
www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/Off
ice2004/ConverterBeta_0_2.xml, yes, I see the download narrative states:
"Operating system: Mac OS X 10.4.8 (Tiger) or a later version of Mac OS". So
that's authoritative as far as Microsoft's converter is concerned.

There are, however, other options. I don't know the OS limitations, if any,
though.

In a previous thread, Elliott Roper reported that he had spotted a shareware
on versiontracker -- docXConverter -- which he said "seems to turn .docx
into RTF".

Elliott also reported that Pages, part of iWork '08, can open .docx files
with only minor errors (it was a fiendishly complex document cooked up by
Bob Jones / CyberTaz just for the purpose) and save the .docx back to .doc
quite happily.

NeoOffice ditto.

I have a vague recollection that there's something else, too, but can't
recall right now.

Cheers,

re-visiting the newsgroup for several days after the first response comes

is provided; sometimes you'll be asked for further information. Good tips
about getting the best out of posting are at

blank page and have to hit the circular arrow icon -- "Reload the current

I have a feeling not.

There are many software upgrades that will not work on OSX.3.x.

For instances Acrobat 8.x will not even install on OSX.3.9.

I have several other versions of software that will work on on either my
Laptop or my Firewire drive that will not work on Main drive.

I expect that Office2008 when it comes out will not work on OSX.3.x

I'd love to upgrade my G4-500 Towers Main Hard Drive to X.4 but I've
tried 7 times and failed all 7. I either have a piece of software that's
incompatible, or something about the internal Hardware doesn't work. Now
I have installed on a firewire Drive attached to that same computer and
installed fine.
