Open Excel MS Works 2001

Phil

I tried to open an Excel Spread Sheet I created elsewhere
with my MS Works 2001 SpreadSheet program an error: "Wkss
has caused an error in MSVCRT.DLL" I closed that and got
a second error: "Wkss has caused an error in
WKSSFRM.DLL."
How can I do this without having to install a version of
Excel to MS Office 2000 to view the file??
BTW - I am running a desktop wiht Windows ME

Basically, MS Works and MS Excel are not compatible.
Try saving the spreadsheet in .txt format and opening it
in MS Works. I have no idea if this will work, but wanted
to mention that MS would rather sell everybody Excel than
Works, so does not make it easy for the programs to use
each other's files-- although it might be possible.

Basically, MS Works and MS Excel are not compatible.

To a degree. You can save .wks files in .xls format. IMXP, Works will have a
fair go at opening .xls files, passing on elements it can't handle (named
ranges, more than very basic formulas, etc.).

*If* all you want is to view the file, you can download a viewer from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en

HTH if not post back,
