Open File Menu with a keystroke

Is there, or can I create, a single keystroke that will open the File menu -- as in the Alt F command in Windows version?

Sorry, Mac OS doesn't support that functionality & there really isn't an
exact equivalent. Control+F2 will access the Menu Bar, then pressing the
appropriate key will direct you to the corresponding menu, but the Menu
names aren't marked with an underscore so there's a bit of guesswork
involved:) then press down arrow to open the menu.

Learning the individual keyboard shortcuts for commands is much more direct,
and Word, Excel & many other apps do provide for assigning custom strokes to
commands that don't already have them.
