Open Hyperlinks in New Window

On our company intranet site, I have a link to a Word document that contains
additional hyperlinks. For some, the document opens in Word, for others it
opens in their browser (I understand this is an individual browser setting
and is cannot be manipulated using programming). However, if it opens in
their browser, I would like the hyperlinks within the document to open in a
new window, rather than the same one that the document open in. Is this a
programmable option in Word, or does it depend on the user's browser as well?
Thanks.

Have you played with setting the Target Frame in the HyperLinks properties dialog?
