open more than one database at a time

I want to compare values in tables of two different databases. When I open
one Access file, whatever file I previously had open is closed, so I can't
have two Access files open at once. Is that a limitation of the program, or
is there a way to do this?

Or start access -> go to file open and open one of the mdb
then
start ANOTHER INSTANCE OF Access and go to file open and open the second
mdb.
