open ole-embedded visio drawing in full window

Ken

Hi,

I put a visio 2002 drawing into a word document using
word's insert-->object-->Microsoft visio drawing. When I
double click on the drawing to open it so I can make a
change, it opens in a really tiny window. I'd like to
open it in a full sized visio window. I suspect there's a
registry setting or something that will cause it to do
this, but I can't find it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi again,

OK, I figured out that I can right click on the drawing, then select visio
object-->open--not as convenient as just double clicking, but OK. But when
I embedded the object in the Word doc, Visio cropped it to get rid of white
space around the drawing, which is good. When I open it, however, the
drawing is on a little page about 2 inches by 3 inches with no white space
around the drawing, so now I can't figure out how to make changes that would
make the drawing bigger.

I have to be missing something basic here. Help appreciated.

What you want to manipulate is the page size of the embeded drawing. Look
on file menu for page setup or page properties (depends on your visio
version). Also, depndeding on your Visio version, you can simply ctrl-drag
and resize the page.

What Visio did was to shrink the page size to fit your drawing. That page
size determines the size of the embed in word. By adjusting the page size
in Visio you will adjust the size in Word as well.

Hope that helps...please post clarifications and more questions if you need
additional information.

Lori,

Thanks for the help. I found file-->page setup-->page size-->predefined
standard. Then I found I had to do shape-->center drawing to get the
drawing out of the corner. Then I made a small change and closed to get
back to Word. This time Visio didn't crop as it did the first time. So I
go back to Visio and do file-->page setup-->page size-->size to fit drawing
contents, then I close to return to Word.

I'm used to SmartDraw, which automatically crops every time I return to
Word, and when I double click on the drawing in Word, automatically opens
the drawing wherever it was on a full-sized page. So the Visio process
seems like a pain. I figure I'll make a macro to do file-->page
setup-->page size-->predefined standard and shape-->center drawing, and
another to do file-->page setup-->page size-->size to fit drawing contents.
I'll assign them to buttons I can use on the way in and the way out. But
now I can't find a macro recorder.

Is there a macro recorder? I can't find anything about one in the help
system. Is there some way to make Visio default to what SmartDraw does? It
would make my life a lot easier.

Thanks again for the help,

Ken
