I have Word 2002 SP 3 with all patches and Windows XP Home SP 2 with
all patches. Several times a week, Word hangs after I click the Save
button and then I have to kill Word, thus causing me to lose
information since my last auto-save. The problem only seems to happen
when I also have Outlook 2002 running with an open draft message. I
use Word as the email editor within Outlook.
Here is how I can easily reproduce the problem: create a Word file and
save it. Open a new message in Outlook with Word as the editor. You
can leave the focus (cursor) in the To field of the message. Switch to
the Word document. Type some characters in for a few seconds, save,
and keep repeating this process in Word of entering characters and
saving until Word hangs, which on my computer happens in under 15
seconds. Even if I don't try to force the issue, Word hangs at least 25
percent of the time that I have an open Outlook draft message.
If Outlook is open without an open draft message , I can perform the
above process of editing and saving without Word hanging.
How can I fix Word/Outlook so this doesn't happen? It seems to be some
sort of integration problem. I have uninstalled/installed Windows and
Office multiple times and still encounter this problem.
I have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0 (patch version 11), but Word
2002 hangs even when I disable McAfee. I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware
and they don't find any spyware.
I deleted all Word temp (*.tmp) files and Owner files (~$*.do?).
I have 1 GB of memory. I am saving files to the internal hard drive of
my Compaq nc8000 computer. It has ~ 30.4 GB free storage space.
Thank you for your help.
