Open Pages doc in Windows

Dr. Frank Stefanec

Hi,
Received my iWork '05 yesterday. Played around with it and wrote a few
docs. Nice program. However, for the heck of it, I attached a Pages
document to an e-mail and sent it to my wife's Dell. How can you open a
Pages doc in Windows. Granted Apple/Mac is the way to go, but we still live
in a world that utilizes both formats. I received a message that it couldn't
open, didn't recognize the format, etc, etc. I recall seeing the format
being an xxx.pages.sit.

Thanks.

Frank

I'm just repeating what I have seen in reviews. I think you can export
as Word or RTF. Both of which Word will read.
However, if you want to show it on her Dell as it left your Mac, print
the thing as PDF and mail that. That's what I do for any Word doc I
send to a PC user, with a .doc as well if I want them to edit it.

Frank:

You've got two problems here....

1) Pages is an Apple proprietary format. Until others get around to making
converters for it, nothing else can read it.

2) Sit (Stuffit) is a compression format that is not popular in Windows.
Windows users "can" download a free Stuffit Expander, and I always advise
them to attempt this so they can in future read Stuffit documents.

However, most corporate PCs will not allow the end user to install software,
so having downloaded it, the user then can't get it to install.

As others have said: Send .doc or .rtf or .HTML format and PCs can read it
-- provided you do not also Stuffit.

Cheers

Hi Dr. Frank-

Just in case it hadn't occurred to you, it also doesn't hurt to check
the box for Windows friendly attachments (or comparable setting) if
there is one.

Nice to hear the compliment about iWork!

Good Luck|:>)
