We have some Word 2003 password protected documents that we need to update.
The password is lost. Is there a work around?

Not without paying someone to break it for you. And unless you are on a
Mac, you are in the wrong place.

You’ve landed in a MacWord group (not your fault, one of the web
interfaces is *very* badly designed). You might get an answer from the
people here who use both Windows and Mac, but you should try asking your
question on the general Word newsgroups. Start here:

There are a variety of vendors on the Internet that claim to be able to
break the encryption that is applied to the Word 2003 text when a password
is activated.

If you feel entirely comfortable giving your credit-card details and your
confidential documents to someone who cracks passwords for a living, you
could try them. You would be a braver man than I :)

Cheers
