Open Project Security Question

Darrell

I am not sure I understand the security category setting for allowing people
to open all projects in "Read-Only" versus "Edit" mode.

What I think I know is –

If in the "My Personal Projects" category I provide “Openâ€, “Save to Serverâ€
and “Publish†permissions to a user and set “Projects†to “User is Ownerâ€
they can create, save and publish schedules where they are the owner.

And; if in the “My Projects†category I give them “Open†permission and set
“Projects†to “All†they can open all schedules but only in “Read-Only†mode.

Is this the correct settings to allow people to only open and edit their own
schedules and open all other schedules in “Read- Only

No, this is not correct. You only need to open the Project Managers group,
select the My Organization, and set the Open Project permission to allow.
If you do this, your PMs will still be able to open their own projects
Read/Write, but will only be able to open everyone else's projects
Read-Only. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Your responses are always a great help. Here is my situation - the current
security configuration (MSPS 2007) allows anyone with MS Project Pro and a
server account to open all projects in Read/Write mode. I know, why call it
project server security if everyone can go everywhere and do everything. This
is what I am working to correct <grin>.

I think I understand now what I was missing… if not “I’ll be back!â€

Thx again,
Darrell

What you have just said is also incorrect. The default permissions in
Project Server 2007 only allow project managers to see and open their own
projects. By default, they cannot see and open anyone else's projects.
Therefore, someone (maybe you) changed these permissions at some past time.
Hope this helps.
