open secure attachments

My bank is sending me secure attachments that my mac tells me I need 'microsoft word' to open and reply. can you help? THANKYOU!

I don't think we can help. At least: not without some detailed information.

Which version of Microsoft Word do you have? What version of Mac OS? What
kind of processor? That's about the minimum we need to answer the question.

What format are the attachments in? (What is the file extension?)

It may be that your bank is using Microsoft Word 2007 encryption to secure
the documents. If that's the case, you need a copy of PC Word 2003 or 2007
to open them: Mac Word can't handle PC Word digital signatures.

I would be very surprised if a bank were to send out documents in that
state, because they would know this. So I would proceed very carefully: you
may have a dangerous file there that is seeking to compromise your bank
account. I wouldn't simply take it to a PC and try to open it without doing
a bit of checking!

Have you telephoned your bank to make SURE the file came from them? If it
did, ask then what format they sent it in, and how they secured it. If you
can get us this information, we may be able to give you a firm answer.
