Open Visio 2003 file in Visio 2000

Visio Minnesota

Is there anyway I can open a Visio file (created in version 2003) using Visio
2000. It seems version 2003 is not backward compatible to version 2000.

you're correct v2000 cannot open a v2003 file. alternatives include : save
v2003 as v2002, save as html, use the visio viewer, save as svg (free viewer
from adobe).

Al - are you saying that if you save a v2003 as v2002 - that it should open
properly in v2000?

Thanks for your reply.
What if I have to modify the flowchart (edit rather than view only)? So I
created a flowchart in visio 2003, my customer wants this flowchart to edit,
but he has only visio 2000 (not 2003). Is any workaround to do this or my
customer has no choice but to upgrade visio 2000 to visio 2003?

Thanks John. There must be some incompatibilities with Visio's Gantt
charting though - the Gantt charts I've created in V2003 (and saved as V2002)
are unreadable by my colleague who has V2000.

v2003 can read the v2000 chart, and of course you can save as v2002(0). As
long as you are just using the drawing function you can share with each
other (add-ons get messy real quick). I'd recommend you don't bounce the
drawing back and forth too much between the two of you.

I was going to ask this same question.

Vision 2003, when asked to save as 2002 seems not to do a good job, as the
resulting file opens in neither 2002 nor 2000.

I tried many other exports. Autocad was amazing. Took ages to convert,
then pretended there was a read only file of the same name in the
directory I wished to save (untrue) so it chose not to save the result.

Have MS totally messed this up ? Is there really no way I can save the
flowchart as a file that is openable and editable by someone with 2000 (or
even 2002) ? Are they just trying to force the world to upgrade whether
they want to or not ?

OK I see. If additional posts to a thread doesn't more the thread to the
top, then it's going to be unusual to get a further response. :-(

Maybe not the best of systems methinks.

Never mind - the recipient of my file has got hold of a 2003 version
anyway. Seemed the only option. Doncha just hate being manipulated like
that though ?

John,

Can "Microsoft Visio Standard 2002 (D86-00703) for PC" upgrade my
Visio 2000 (6.0.1245), Product ID 014561501332 ?

I can't find any assertion on the MS web site as the product is discontinued.
