When my client clicks the open word doc icon on tool bar or use the menu
item, word operates very slowly. It takes a while to open the My Documents
folder... the browse window will be blank for about 30 or 40 seconds then
display a list of documents. Originally my client had a peer to peer
network, I installed a new 2003 server and had them join the domain. This
is when the problem occurred. They are running Office XP with Win XP Pro
machines.
I have the My Doc folder redirected to the network share which seems to be a
factor... I realize it should take longer to browse a network share vs. a
local folder but i never experienced anything this slow. If I use windows
explorer I have virtually no delay. I tried setting to default to a local
folder then browsing to a network drive but it still hangs.
I tried all network tweaks, deleting reg keys for browsing scheduled tasks
and printers, increased network threads, etc. My network is screaming fast
now but word still repsonses slowly. I disabled the Norton Virus Scan
add-in for office and unregistered the dll's but still hangs at browse. I
tried reinstalling Office thinking that maybe changing profiles corrupted
Office install (peer to peer profile vs. domain profile), did not resolve
issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this??? Any suggestions.. I haven't
encountered this before and the only new factor is the server which seems to
be running 100%.
thanks
