Hi Evrybody,
I have a little question about Word and Excel 2003.
I have a problem with this version on laptop.
I format a laptop in Win XPP SP2, Windows and Office Update and Norton
Corporate ED 10.2. It's work very well, fast, good.
My client install Avast Free Antivirus on this laptop, he doesn't see Norton.
But the Laptop work fast. I tell him it's very bad to working with 2
antivirus on the same PC (Norton and Avast in same time it's not a good idea)
He uninstall Avast with the avast plug'in. No error its good,
He use RegCleaner to check if avast was uninstall.
After that when he open word or excel it's good just 3 or 5 second
When he open word or Excel and then in word he open a file (with
file+open+select file) it's good 3 or 5 second.
When he open directly a file in my document, desktop, drive C, Network share
it's very very low 20 or 35 second ??
I uninstall Norton, check with RegCleaner, reboot the laptop and check if
its' working, but it's very low. So i reinstall Norton Corporate 10.2 (A
laptop or PC with no antivirus it was not a good idea, virus or trojan or
spywar??)
It' very low. Outlook PowerPoint and Publisher work very well and fast.
I uninstall Office and reinstall word and excel was very slow!

Somebody have an idea??

Hi 6stemD,

Do you have a local printer driver installed? Are there any mapped network drives that are not available/disconnected when trying
to open files? Either of those can be factors that can contribute to slow opening of documents. Word will 'wait' for drives to
become available and it looks for a local printer driver to use.

If the problem is ONLY when you double-click on a file to open it. the
problem is likely due to DDE. It can be fixed by reinstalling, OR this
workaround.

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to and
select (DOC for Word files) or XLS (for Excel files), click Advanced,
select Open entry, click the edit Button.
Now uncheck "Use DDE" and then put your cursor in the Application box,
arrow all the way to the right and put in "%1" (include the quote
marks), IF there is /dde remove it. Then OK you way out. Things should
work quickly again.
