Open XLS Attachment from Outlook 2003 SP1

My users are unable to open an XLS attachment from a sent email. They get a
dialog box that allows them to save the attachment to disk but not open it.

I've already added the LEVEL1REMOVE string to the Registry and found some
TechNet article about an additional LEVEL2REMOVE. The article eludes to
having Exchange running (which we do not). We use an ISP for our email.

The odd thing is, all of my users have SP1 installed and the LEVEL1REMOVE
but only some of them are experiencing this issue, others are not. I cannot
decipher how/where to change this outside of the LEVEL2REMOVE reg hack.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

By adding .xls to Level1Remove, you've actually made it harder, not easier to remove. And there is no Level2Remove registry value.

Take .xls out of Level1Remove, restart Outlook, and start at the beginning by describing your symptoms.

Sue -

Thanks! For some reason I thought that XLS files were part of the
Level1Remove....once I took the XLS out of the reg hack, I was able to open
XLS files again.
