Open XLT as XLS using hyperlink?

Does anyone know of a way to open an XLT file as an XLS? I'm using the
hyperlink Excel function to link to XLT files on a network share
folder. The problem is clicking the hyperlink opens the XLT file (as
read-only). I need it to open an instance instead.

Any suggestions?
