I've just "upgraded" from Office 2000 to 2003 for XP. Since the
changeover, Word has begun to do at least two new things when I'm
using the mail merge functions.
1. With the prior version, when I opened a mail merge main document,
the document simply opened. Amazing, right? With the "improved"
2003, when I open any mail merge document, I get a flash screen every
time, and have to click "yes" before the document will open. Major
irritation!
"OPENING THIS DOCUMENT WILL RUN THE FOLLOWING SQL COMMAND
SELECT * FROM DATABASE.DOC
Data from your database will be placed in the document. Do you want to
continue? Yes/No"
2. But that's not all. Once the document is open, with the
"old" version, I could click on the Data Form icon and, if I needed
to look at the source document, i.e. the data base, I simply clicked on
the Show Source button and the data base opened. As you've probably
guessed, NOT ANY MORE! Now, nothing happens. If I want to see the
data base, I have to go to File Open to do so if I want to see the data
in the simple table form I'm used to. If I click on the Edit
Recipients List in the new righthand pane, I get the data in a new,
hitherto unseen, form instead of a simple table.
I'm not a programmer, just a layman user.
Is there any option selection or workaround which will enable the older
version's functionality?
Any help will be appreciated.
