Opening a Custom Link Bar in a new window?

Hi - I have been reading all the posts on opening links in a new window but
can't seem to get it to work. Hope someone can help me please.. Using
FP2003 - got link bars in the left border for the web pages and have also got
2 custom link bars which go to external addresses. There is no hyperlink
properties to set the target frame and I have tried amending the code on one
of the custom links to the following:
<a href="http://www.airshows.org.uk/redhillmap.html"
target="_blank">Location Map</a> but after publishing, the link still opens
in the same window.
I don't want to set the page properties to open all links in a new window
but is there no way I can force these 2 custom links please? .. Help..!!
