opening a file causes office 2003 installer to start

I am using Office 2007 Standard Edition. I upgraded to 2007 from 2003 Pro
when I purchased a new laptop. Now every time I try to open an existing 2003
file( word, excel, ppoint, whatever) the installer for 2003 tries to install
2003. If I open the file via the file menu in the application very thing
works file, but to open by double clicking from a directory window this
happens. Anyone got any suggestions?

I check and they appear to be correct. 2003 is not even installed any
longer.
