Opening a file read-only

Is there way to open a file read-only?

Launch Microsoft Project and log into Project Server. Click File - Open.
In the Open from Microsoft Office Project Server dialog, select the
"Read-only to view" option at the bottom of the dialog, and then click the
Open button. Hope this helps.

This is helpful, but unfortunately I did not ask the right question. Is
there a way to open a file stored in WSS read only? Thanks for the response.

When you click the document name, WSS opens the document Read-Only. If you
wish to open the document Read/Write, hover your mouse pointer over the
document name, click the pick list button, and then select the Edit in
_______ option. Hope this helps.

That worked, thanks. However, when I click on the doc and it opens read
only, WSS does not prevent me from making changes and saving anyway. Is this
normal behavior?

Strangely enough, that does appear to be the default behavior of WSS. I
never noticed that before.
