Opening a file

When I try to open a file I get the following message: "PowerPoint can't read
the outline from XXXXX. No text converter is installed for this file type."

Any ideas,

You're in Mac PowerPoint group, but have a look at this:

Recovering a corrupt presentation

Then if you like, follow up by posting your question in the Public.PowerPoint
group (where the other Windows users hang out)

I get this message when I try to open a Powerpoint 2003 file with extension
..pps. I just downloaded and installed PowerPoint 2007 after deinstalling
Office 2003. Would that have cause this problem?

I am running on Windows XP. and I got the file from a trusted person in an
email. I downloaded the file from an email, cut and pasted it from my C
drive to My Documents folder, and ran a Norton Anti-virus scan on it. One of
the messages said that my antivirus software might be keeping me from opening
the file. I do have an anti-virus using permissions with a registry. Could
that be the problem? Do I have to set up permissions for Powerpoint?

Thanks, WebDeveloperZZ
