Opening a new documents opens a new versions of Word

Recently installed Word 2003 and was previously using Word 97.

Now when I open a new document, it opens a new version of Word each
time. How can I change this so that all documents open in same
application?

AFAIK you can't change this. That's how it is. I've asked this question
before. BTW, you probably mean a new *window* rather than a new *version*. I
expect you've only got one version of Word on your machine!

Tools menu - Options - View tab.
Turn off "windows in taskbar"

If they didn't give this checkbox such an obscure name, we'd be able to
find it much more easily.

This feature must have come in since my 2000 version because I don't
have"windows in taskbar" to turn off.
