Opening a recovered document

Hi - I had just finished working on a very large Word doc (60Mb!) when Word
crashed. It did an auto recovery of the document which appears that it has
saved okay in the same folder I had it saved originally - I had luckily saved
the document just before it crashed - but I cannot open the file now, I get
an error message that says 'the document name or path is not valid'. Can
someone please help - otherwise I have to revert to a back-up copy and
recreate three hours of solid work! :-( Thanks.

If the last saved document is in the folder and there are no associated
temporary files (http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm )
you should be able to open the saved document or the recovered document from
the File > Open menu (Word 2007 - Office Button > Open).

You may still get an error message if the file is cortrupt, but it shouldn't
refer to the document name/path. That message is usually an indication that
the file registration has gone awry - see how to re-register Word when
problems crop up opening files

fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open
with...

From the ensuing dialog select Word (winword.exe) and check the box to
always open with this application.

Thanks for your answer, unfortunately none of those options worked. I guess
the file has had a major corruption. Looks like it's back to the start
again. Thx anyway.
