Opening a Word or Excel Document within PWA/SharePoint

I have a resource that cannot open a Word or Excel document that is stored in
a Project Document area. The person has Microsoft Office 2003 installed.
What is happening is that the person selects (clicks) on the document and
nothing happens. We tried the dropdown “Edit in Microsoft Office Word†and
the same thing happened. The individual was able to right click on the
document and select “Save Target As†and saved the document to hard drive and
was able to open the document. I have not seen this before. I suspect that
it could be an issue in the Office install but thought to ask if anyone else
has come across this.

Gary,
Thanks, but the user is a PM and we are using the default values which
grants a PM rights to edit a document. I am thinking it is an Office issue
and will do some additional investigation.

It's not an Office issue. In standalone WSS the only requirement for Edit in
Microsoft Word (/Excel/PowerPoint) to work is that the user has installed
either Office XP or Office 2003.

You have Office 2003 as client (and I presume a recent IE) so that's not it.
I'd look instead as Gary suggested at the Project Server 2003 aspect.
