That file type is used by WordPerfect. Mac Word dropped the .wpd filters
several versions back well after Corel abandoned the Mac platform. I don't
know of any current Mac software that still supports that file format.
If you have access to a Windows PC running MS Office or Corel WordPerfect
you may be able to open the file there & resave in .doc or .docx, depending
on the specific vintage of the file. Other than that you'll probably need a
conversion program such as MacLink Plus from DataViz:
