Opening an Access 97 db in Access 2002

Hello everyone. I want to do a very simple thing. I want
to open an Access 97 database in my brand new copy of XP.
I will then want to save it back in the original format
for others to view it on our LAN. It will only allow me
to convert. The open dialogue is greyed out. Can I do
this simple thing, is there a download I have missed?
Thanks in advance for any help given.

No, you shouldn't need any downloads. Here the relevant
Access Help section:

When you open a Microsoft Access version 2.0 database, an
Access 95 database, or an Access 97 database in Access
2002, the Convert/Open Database dialog box asks you to
choose between converting and opening (enabling) the
Access database. When an Access 2002 user enables the
database, Access maintains the original format so that
users of previous versions of Access can continue to use
the database. For example, if a shared database is created
in Access version 2.0, it can be used with Access version
2.0 and enabled in Access 2002.

When you use an enabled Access database in Access 2002,
you can view database objects and add, delete, or modify
records in Access 2002, but you can't modify the design of
objects. To modify the design of existing objects or to
add new objects, you must open the file in the previous
version of Access.

Have you tried repairing ( or even re-installing)
Access/OfficeXP in the Windows Install/Uninstall?

Hallo Va

This is what is frustrating!! The open dialogue box is greyed out. I have tried repair and reinstalling but to no avail. I also have Office 2000 on another computer. Same problem although it does allow a conversion with no problems. Access 2002 will not convert properly
I am trying to open replicas. Could this be the probem? Should I try opening the master instead. Why aren't things simple (don't answer that)
Anything else I can try

The replica is the problem. You cannot modify the design of a replica!
