Opening An Earlier Version of a Saved Document

Help! I had my outline, a word document, open. It was about 18 pages long. I inserted a chart and saved. When I went to open the document up again, all that was there was the chart.

My question is this: Is there a way to open an earlier version of the outline? For example, is there some way that I can open the version I saved at 6:10, instead of the last version I saved at 6:15?

When you save the file is updated based on its current content, so there is
no "earlier version" to which you can revert. You can Undo until you close
the file, but once the file is closed that history is gone.

To prevent similar occurrences in the future it's a good idea to save
interim versions as separate files & use the Always Create Backup Copy
option in Word> Preferences> Save.
