Opening an earlier version of Word in 2008

Tromba

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I am trying to open a document that was created in Word 1.x–5.x (from the Get Info window). When I click on the document, a popup window opens suggesting a workaround. It says to click OPEN from the FILE menu, and then save in Word 2008. But even when I use this procedure the document will still not open.

Can anyone give me some help on this?

Thanks, Tromba

Your document has probably been created in a version that is simply TOO old.
Mac Word 2008 does not have an import converter for it.

If you find someone with a copy of PC Word 2000, they may still have the
converter, but it was withdrawn from service a very long time ago.

Hope this helps
