Opening and saving Escel 2000 files

Whenever I attempt to open an Excel spreadsheet from |File|Open|, or to save
an open spreadsheet,I get an error message that "gwxl97.xla" could not be
found. I can, however, open files by double-clicking on them in Windows
Explorer, and I can save a file when I exit Excel. Do I need this file(?),
and if so, where can I get it?
