Oooooh! NEVER EVER open attachments "automatically". Even if they are from a
"trusted" source, you should still scan them with AV first.......

A classic example of why we all need anti-virus applications - to protect
ourselves from people who automatically open attachments!

OK the point is taken so the next question is as I am using Norton can I
configure norton to check the attachments as they are imported OR
before/while they are being opened.

If you are only recieving one attachment at a time on one email anyone can
live with opening it manually but my scenario (which is typical of anyone
who is working with engineering drawings) is that my co-respondent will
email me with up to 20 drawings at a time. By the time I have opened
attachment no 1 -- looked at it -- need to refer to drg no 2 or maybe find
which drawing matches the part i am looking for and going through the
opening process for other drawings it is just to confusing. The same applies
when attachments are "saved as" - (save as something somewhere else then go
to explorer find the folder open each attachment look at it--
Sorry outlook express opens the attachments all at once and i will go back
to that route

If you extract them all to disk, Norton AV will check them then, before
you've opened them.
